GARDEN DESIGNING

Last Monday, a special guest came to our school, he is an associate professor in Naming Forestry University and he is also a famous landscape architect, some people told us:"he is one of the most prestigious art designers in Jiangsu province." This time he wanted to give us a lecture about the Chinese traditionally garden designing.

Firstly, he asked us an abstract question:” what is the garden? What is the definition of it?” then he said:” garden is a beautiful designing of living environment which have plants, rocks, water.” And he also told us a good garden must has the: wells, walls, plants, and the capricious terrain, if the garden lacked one of them, it could let people feel a sense of loss, and let the whole surroundings looked very mediocre without any poetry! Through the beginning of the lecture, we knew in ancient Chinese mind garden is not a simple place, which like modern people have thought about. In the past the whole garden was separated into four notches, at that time, people thought the royal garden was the best one, and then the peripheral gardens were temple garden, and a garden which was christened harmonious garden, the worst one was the public garden. But now, people have changed these archaic concepts. In Suzhou, these classify garden seem have the different characters, it purse a abstruse ideology, it can let people feel very perplexed, for example, on your first sight to that garden, according to the shapes of trees, the wavelet of the water, the noise of the birds… you could feel that is a kinetic garden, but when you just left it, all the things seemed extremely serene!!! You even could hear the breeze from it. If a garden arrive this kind of composition, it must attract many artists! In Chinese poets’ mind: garden is a kind of historical culture, and the poems and gardens are inextricable. Gardens could affect poet’s emotion, and some poets liked to use the gardens use the metaphor to allude to the oasis of our society. Finally he also told us the importance of the rocks. In most gardens, rocks are not very gargantuan, because in people’s mind the most crucial factor is its structure, combining, and whether do them have the value of the art.

About this lecture, I feel that was very profitable for me, I feel in our lives, have the individual sensibility is very important, it can let your life more meaningful, and when you design something, don’t follow the mainstream. Otherwise you would not have the chance to find you potentials
